Abstract

1392764 Acid-ester salts HOECHST AG 14 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 42707/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Water-soluble salts of acid carboxylic acid esters of bivalent aliphatic or olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids or hydroxycarboxylic acids (2-6 C) and aliphatic alcohols (3-6 OH), each hydroxylic group of the alcohol being esterified with one molecule of the bivalent carboxylic acid are used as builders for detergents and cleansing agents. The cation of the salts may be an alkali metal or ammonium ion. Acids may be oxalic, malonic, maleic, succinic, oxydiacetic, tartaric, malic or itaconic acids and the alcohols, glycerol, erythritol, pentaerythritol, mannitol, sorbitol, on a sugar alcohol (4-6 C). Conventional esterification methods are used and examples describe the preparation and use of salts from oxydiacetic acid and malic acid esterified with glycerol, and oxydiacetic acid with sorbitol.
