1392351 Reversible ploughs P VIAUD & CO 11 April 1972 [16 April 1971 (2)] 16634/72 Heading A1B A semi-mounted one way reversible plough comprises a tool beam 3 which has two sets of liftable plough shares arranged in a fish bone pattern thereon and which is moved in a horizontal plane about a pivot 4 by two jacks 8, 8' whose control mechanism also causes the right hand plough shares to be lowered or lifted whilst the left hand plough shares are raised or lowered according to the orientation of the beam 3. The front end of the beam 3 slides in a guide piece 6 mounted on a central beam 5 to which is articulated an oscillatory coupling head 7 for coupling the plough to a tractor (not shown). The head 7 is connected to the guide piece by way of two U-shaped members (Fig. 3) (not shown) located at respective ends of the guide piece 6 so as to receive the end of the beam 3, and thereby incline the plough relative to the coupling head 7 so as to maintain the operative plough shares in a vertical working position by compensating for the inclination of the tractor due to its wheels being in a furrow. The tool beam 3 is supported at its rear end by ground wheels 16 which are aligned with respect to the direction of travel by a linkage 18, 18'. Each plough share is raised or lowered by a respective single acting hydraulic jack 44 acting on a two part, articulated thrust bar 45, 47, the two parts being biased into substantial alignment by a spring 43. A screw 42 permits the included angle between parts 45, 47 to be adjusted to alter the force necessary to overcome the spring. On encountering an obstacle the thrust bar folds and the share lifts over the obstacle. The jack may be double acting.
