Abstract

1392299 Friction clutches GKN TRANSMISSIONS Ltd 25 Aug 1972 [18 Sept 1971] 43598/71 Heading F2C In a double friction clutch for the main and power-take-off drives of a tractor wherein two driven discs 16, 18 are normally clamped between a flywheel 13 and first and second presser plates 15, 17 by springs 22 and are sequentially released by radial release levers 26, the first and second presser plates 15, 17 are connected for conjoint rotation by rods 34 positioned radially outwardly of the second driven disc 18 and springs 37 reduce the clamping pressure on the disc 16. The rods 34 are axially fast with the first presser plate 15 and pass through bores in the second presser plate 17 to permit relative axial movement between the presser plates. The release levers 26 are pivoted at 27 to the second presser plate 17 and initial movement of the levers pivots the latter about pins 30 which react on the rods 34 to maintain the first driven plate 16 clamped between the flywheel 13 and first presser plate 15 whilst the second driven disc 18 is disengaged. On further movement of the levers 26, pivot bolts 35 engage reaction studs 25a on a clutch cover 25 and thereafter the levers 26 pivot about the bolts 35 to relieve the pressure on the rods 34 whereupon the springs 37 disengage the first driven disc 16. The pivot bolts 35 are adjustable to allow for wear. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,215,717.
