Abstract

1392261 Colour-coating polymer particles CIBA-GEIGY AG 14 March 1973 [14 March 1972 (3)] 12275/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Granules of linear polyamides or polyesters having fixed thereon an additive, with m.p. >100‹C, being a pigment, polymer-soluble dyestuff, optical brightener, heat-stabilizer, or U.V. absorbent, are made by mixing granules of the polymer with the additive in a highspeed rotary mixer at 30-200‹C until the granule surface is plasticized and the pigments or dyestuffs are fixed on the granules, followed, if necessary, by allowing the mixture to cool. These may be 0.1-5 parts by wt additives per 100 parts granules. The polymer may be nylon 6, 11, 66, or 6/10; or polyalkylene terephthalate, where the alkylene radical has 2-10 cations. Pigments and dyestuffs which are coated as powders include Cd sulphide, Fe and Cr oxides, ultramarine, Co pigments, C black, TiO 2 , phthalocyanines, e.g. hexadecachloro-Cu phthalocyanine, #-Cu phthalocyanine, phenylenetetracarboxylic acid di-(p-methoxyphthalimide) quinacridones, 2, 4- di-(2'-hydroxynaphthyl) - 6 - pyrenyl-1, 3, 5- triazine, perylenetetracarboxylic diimide, anthrimide carbazoles, azo dyestuff metal complexes, e.g. 1, 2-Cr complexes of water-insoluble monazo dyestuffs e.g. or disperse azo-dyestuffs, dis-azo pigment or alkyl-, cycloalkyl-, or aryl aminoanthraquinones, phenylmercapto-anthraquinones, or anthraquinone-acridones. Alternatively, the colourant may be used as a preparation comprising abietic esters, magnesium behenate, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, or polyterpene resins. The optical brighteners may be the heat stabilizer may be and the U-V stabilizer may be The mixer may have speed 300-3000 rpm. The coated granules may be formed into fibres, sheets, strips, or injection-mouldings. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 878669.
