Abstract

1392256 Preparation of optically active alanine derivatives TANABE SEIYAKU CO Ltd 19 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972 (2)] 2807/73 Heading C2C Alpha - methyl - beta - (3,4 - methylenedioxyphenyl) - DL - alanine p - phenol - sulfonate is resolved into its optically active enantiomers by forming a supersaturated solution in a solvent with one of the enantiomers predominant by being present in excess over the other in a solution and/or by being present in contact with the solution as a seeding, allowing the predominent enantiomer to crystallize out and recovering it from the mother liquor. Optically active alpha-methyl-beta-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alanine is obtained by adding one optically active enantiomer of alpha-methylbeta - (3,4 - methylene - dioxyphenyl) - alanine p-phenol-sulfonate to an aqueous solution of the DL phenol-sulfonate compound, supersaturating the solution, permitting the one optically active enantiomer to crystallize from the supersaturated solution, recovering the crystallized optically active enantiomer, treating it with an alkaline agent or ion exchange resin and then hydrolysing the resultant optically active alpha-methyl-beta-(3,4-methylene-dioxyphenyl)-alanine with a concentrated hydrohalogenic acid in the presence of phenol.
