Abstract
1392157 Primary cell positive electrode VARTA BATTERIE AG 28 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 30730/73 Heading H1B A method of making a positive electrode comprises mixing graphite and MnO 2 and introducing into this mixture a dispersion of an organic polymer in a hydrophilic liquid medium in which the polymer is insoluble. The resultant mixture is dried, if necessary, to remove a quantity of the liquid medium and is then pressed to form the electrode. The organic polymer serves as a binder, the preferred polymer being polyisobutylene and the preferred liquid medium being water. Alternative polymers mentioned are polystyrene polyolefins and partially fluorinated polyolefins. In one example 90 parts by weight of MnO 2 are mixed with 10 parts of graphite and into this mixture is introduced 1.5 parts of polyisobutylene in the form of a 10% by weight dispersion in water.
