Abstract
1,199,978. Water-activatable secondary cells. GLOBE-UNION Inc. 14 Nov., 1967 [3 April, 1967], No. 51651/67. Heading H1B. The electrolyte of an inert, water-activatable secondary cell or battery is a substantially solid mixture of oleum containing up to 40 wt. per cent of free SO 3 and a silica gelling agent. Preferably the electrolyte mixture is pressed into briquettes or pellets and positioned above and below the plates of individual cells. The use of a mixture of silica and 96% H 2 SO 4 is also disclosed.
