Abstract
139,207. Carbonit Akt. Ges., and Schmidt, G., (Assignees of Sprengstoff Akt.- Ges. earbonit). Oct. 28, 1918, [Convention date]. Explosives.-Consists in removing explosive charges from projectiles by means of a jet of hot water. As shown in Fig. 4. the projectile P is inverted over a nozzle 4 at the bottom of a funnel 6 which guides the water and explosive coming out of the projectile down to a trough f disposed beneath a series of such funnels and leading to a settling chamber b, Fig. 6. The molten explosive such as trinitrotoluene is run off from the bottom into receptacles b<3>; and the water overflows through a pipe b<1> to a tank c heated by steam coils c<2>. From thence, the water is forced by a pump d to the nozzles 4 through a, pipe e. When the explosive contains ingredients soluble in water such as ammonium nitrate, it becomes saturated after a certain time and is then run off from the tank c, and the ingredient recovered therefrom. The settling chamber b may also be heated.
