Abstract

1391786 Working stone NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 5 Oct 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 37106/71 Heading B5E [Also in Division E1] A device 10 for breaking concrete roads 12 comprises a first set of jaws 14 for engaging one surface of the road and a second jaw 24 for engaging the opposed surface and movable towards the first set by an expansion device, e.g. a hydraulic ram 19, the second jaw 24 engaging the road at a point further from the roads free edge than the first jaws 14. The device, as shown may be mounted on an excavator 102 so that it can be rocked back and forth to exert a bending moment on the road. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the device may be free-standing having ground-engaging rams secured to the pivot points 100, expansion of the rams then exerting a bending moment on the road. The device may also be used for demolishing masonry walls.
