Abstract

1391421 Tobacco-smoke filter manufacture ROTHMANS INTERNATIONAL LTD 4 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 13071/71 Heading A2C [Also in Division Dl] A folding device, for use in cigarette filter rod making apparatus, comprises a transversly corrugated channel through which filter material to be folded can be drawn, the channel being formed by two rows of intermeshing ribs 2 of such dimensions that the material is progressively stretched transversely and folded into corrugations as it passes through the length of the channel. The amplitude of each rib 2, and the distance over the surface of the ribs between the tip of a rib in one row and the tip of a rib next to it in the other row, progressively increase, and the distance between adjacent ribs in each row progressively decreases, from the entrance end of the passage (Fig 3) to its exit end (Fig 4). The corrugated and stretched filter material is passed directly into a bustle to form a tow.
