1391159 Boots &c LENINGRADSKOE SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO PO PROEKTIROVANIJU KOZHEVENNYKH I OBUVNYKH MASHIN 13 July 1973 33421/73 Heading A3B A forepart pulling over and lasting machine includes a drafting head 2 which carries a toe gripper 22 and side grippers 23, 24, and which is movable horiontally and vertically to effect drafting of upper on the last, the toe gripper 22 being movably mounted on the drafting head 2 so that it can move to a position underlying the toe of the last where it grips the upper and can then move upwardly and rearwardly to guide the lasting margin into the side grippers 23, 24. The machine also includes wipers 6, a hold down 81 and a heel clamp 67. As described the machine is suitable for incorporation in an automatic or semi-automatic production line in which the last 15 (Fig. 10) is mounted on a carrier 14 which is moved intermittently along the line by a conveyor (not shown). When the last 15 and carrier 14 reach the machine the carrier 14 is clamped in position by clamps 13 (Fig. 11). The upper is then placed over the last 15, the position of the heel end of the upper being determined by a spring loaded stop 71 (Fig. 10) carried by the arm 68 supporting the heel clamp 67, and when positioned the heel clamp 67 is operated by cylinder 74. The drafting head 2 is then moved forwardly by cylinder 20 (Fig. 11) and downwardly by cylinder 18 to its operative position above the last 15. The toe gripper 22 (Fig. 3) is then lowered by cylinder 38 and is simultaneously moved forwardly by a cam plate 40 on the gripper housing engaging an abutment strip 41 on the drafting head so that the gripper 22 underlies the toe portion of the last. The lasting margin is then introduced into the toe gripper 22 which is then closed by cylinder 32 and is raised by cylinder 38 to impart a longitudinal pull on the upper. During this movement the side portions. of the lasting margin are automatically guided into the side grippers 23, 24. The hold-down (Fig. 11) is then moved by cylinder 83 into contact with the insole on the last bottom. The side grippers 23, 24 are then closed and the drafting head 2 is raised by cylinder 38 and moved rearwardly by cylinder 20 to tension the upper about the last. The slide 7 carrying the wipers 6 is then moved forwardly to its operative position by cylinder 58 and the wipers 6 are then operated by cylinder 60. During the operation of the wipers 6 the grippers release the upper and the hold-down 81 is raised. After a predetermined time lag the various parts return to their initial position and the conveyor moves to remove the lasted upper and to introduce a fresh last into the machine.
