Abstract

1390737 Suction dredgers INDUSTRIEELE HANDELSCOMBINATIE HOLLAND NV 15 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7554/73 Heading E1F A suction dredger, of the type in which a cutter is mounted adjacent a suction nozzle, comprises a body portion which carries the cutter and nozzle at one end and a crossyoke 10 which is pivotally mounted to the other end of the body portion at 15 and carries two vertically movable spud poles 11, 12 for engaging the bed 34 to be dredged; the body portion being swung from side to side about the pivot axis 15 during dredging while both spud poles engage the bottom, and being moved lower by withdrawing one spud pole and effecting relative pivotal movement between the cross-yoke 10 and the body portion to advance this spud pole. The spud pole is then lowered and dredging movements continue in the new position, the process being repeated with the other pole when a further forward movement is required. In the embodiment shown a drivable subframe is used to effect dredging oscillations about the axis 15 and, by continuing the oscillations while one pole is lifted, is also used to advance the dredger. In another embodiment (Figs. 1, 2 not shown) dredging oscillations are effected by pulling the body portion from side to side using cables and the relative pivotal movement between cross-yoke and body portion necessary to advance the dredger when one spud pole is lifted is made by lockable hydraulic jacks (6, 7) connected between the body portion and cross-yoke.
