Abstract

1390616 Pesticidal compositions CIBAGEIGY AG 26 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 35087/71 Heading ASE A composition effective against bacteria and fungi comprises a compound of general formula: wherein X is O or S, the rings A and A' may be the same or different and each represents a phenyl radical which may be substituted by from 1 to 3 fluorine, chlorine or bromine atoms or by lower alkyl groups or by one or two trifluoromethyl groups, and R 1 , R 1 ', R 2 and R 2 ' may be the same or different, and each represents H, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, and a reactive polyamide resin. The compositions may be applied to paper pulp during the manufacturing process and the bacteriostatic papers produced used to make dental, hospital and sanitary towels, gowns, wipes, baby diapers and the like. Some of the compounds of the above general formula are stated to exhibit synergism with halogenated hydroxydiphenyl methanes, halogenated salicylic acid anilides, halogenated diphenyl ureas and halogenated ureas. Specified combinations are the compound of the above formula derived from 4, 4'-dichloro-2-hydroxy diphenyl ether and 3, 4, 3', 4'-tetrachloro-2, 2'-dihydroxydiphenyl methane or 3, 5, 6, 3', 5', 6'-hexachloro-2, 2'-dihydroxydiphenyl methane.
