Abstract
1389907 Switching circuits for electromagnets BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc 30 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30742/72 Heading H3T [Also in Divisions H1 and F2] An electromagnetic actuator, e.g. a clutch or brake actuator 90, is supplied through the parallel combination of a resistor 86 and a diode 88 so that when the polarity of the supply is such that the diode conducts and by-passes the resistor, sufficient current flows to operate the actuator whereas when the supply is reversed sufficient current flows only to demagnetize the actuator. As shown "slub" and "space" clutch coils 90 and 100 of a slub yarn machine are connected in parallel in series with oppositely poled diodes. They are energized from a bridge arrangement of transistors 64, 68, 72 and 80 which are cross-coupled so that either 80 and 68 are conductive to apply one polarity of voltage across the coils to operate one actuator and demagnetize the other or 64 and 70 are conductive to operate the other actuator and demagnetize the first. A high initial operate current is provided by a capacitor 82. The circuit is also applicable to the feed and braking arrangement for a drapery cutting table.
