Abstract
1389126 Band-pass filters PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39230/72 Heading H1W A bandpass filter comprises input and output lines coupled by ferrimagnetic resonance in YIG elements and also by electro-magnetic coupling whereby a frequency characteristic having attenuation poles may be obtained. As shown, inner-conductors 2 of input and output co-axial lines are connected to conductor 8 of a strip line. The conductors 2 are spaced from and run at right-angles to a coupling conductor 2a. Magnetically polarized YIG spheres 3 are inserted in the spacing. In addition to the magnetic coupling, conductors 2 are also electromagnetically coupled through a gap of dimensions a, b. It can be shown that the signals transmitted by the two types of coupling are in antiphase at frequencies on either side of the pass band, whereby poles of attenuation are created at these points.. The same effect arises in a filter having more than two sections if the electromagnetic coupling is arranged between sections separated by an even number of intermediate sections. The filter is enclosed in a magnetic yoke 10, 11 which attached to the substrate of the strip line 8 by two bolts 18 (one shown). The filter may be magnetically tuned either by a movable magnetic shunt or by a winding on the yoke (Fig. 8, not shown). In the case of coupled adjacent sections, the coupling gap may be adjusted by a movable shutter (Fig. 7, not shown).
