Abstract

1388944 Injection moulding polyamides DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 13 April 1972 [17 April 1971] 17176/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] A dimensionally stable amorphous polyamide body, the polyamide of which comprises recurring groups derived from terephthalic acid and from a C-alkyl substituted aliphatic diamine, is injection moulded by a screw type machine using a back pressure of 5 to 80 kgf/ cm.<SP>2</SP> and a cylinder temperature of 240‹ to 320‹ C. Injection is preferably by a reciprocating screw having a compression ratio from 2 : 1 to 3 : 1. The viscosity factor according to DIN 53727 of the polyamide is from 130 to 180 and is preferably lowered to between 90 and 170 during processing but may be raised. The elastic modulus of the body according to DIN 53457 is from 28,000 to 29,000 kgf/cm.<SP>2</SP> and the leakage current according to DIN 53480 is quality KA 3b. Examples are given of terephthalic acid derivatives, of C-methyl substituted aliphatic diamines, and of titanium dioxide and other pigments used in the polyamide (see Division C3). Also the physical properties of the polyamide and the moulding pressure and temperatures are given.
