Abstract

1388585 Selecting records RICOH KK 14 Aug 1972 [14 Sept 1971 1 Oct 1971 28 Dec 1971] 37896/72 Heading G4M Laminar members 3, e.g. microfiche, are each provided with at least one reflective surface M, N which may form part of a clip 3B attached to the member, as shown, or may be separate therefrom, 28, 29 as in Fig. 11, the reflective surface(s) serving either to deflect light from a source 5 through a coded marginal portion of the member 3 and on to a detector 6 or being coded, whereby a selected member may be located and retrieved. In the apparatus described, the code for a selected member is entered on a keyboard, relative movement between the detector and a magazine containing the coded members takes place, and after detection the selected member is withdrawn from the magazine for display and/or copying of a selected information field thereon. Numerous different arrangements of the reflecting surfaces are described. One of the reflectors of a pair may be smaller than the other and movable relative thereto in order to provide serial read out of the code associated with the corresponding member.
