Abstract

1388580 Sustained release medicines TORAY INDUSTRIES INC 29 Dec 1972 [8 Jan 1972] 60094/72 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] A sustained release medicament includes a hydrogel comprising a water soluble polypeptide or polysaccharide containing a chelating group bound to the polymer chain and a polyvalent metal ion, in which the polymers are cross-linked through chelation between the chelating groups of the polymer chains by the polyvalent metal ion (see Division C3). An insulin gel is obtained by adding a solution of insulin to carboxymethylamylasecystive (degree of carboxymethylation 0.2 mol per glucose residue, cystine 7.2 mol per 100 glucose residues, then adding zinc chloride solution and sodium hydroxide to bring the pH to 7.0, heating at 60‹C for 2 hours and then homogenising with physiological saline.
