Abstract

1388536 Reproducing pictures SOC CIVILE D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES ARTISTIQUES ET GRAPHIQUES 12 March 1973 [10 March 1972] 11746/73 Heading B6X An original picture is placed face up on a flat plate. A layer of wax is applied followed by a layer of metal which is built up to a substantial thickness by repeated applications by a spray of molten metal. The metal shell is then removed from the original and covered by a polymerizable plastic which is allowed to set. The matrix so formed is placed in a frame and a composite cast of sprayed metal and plastics is obtained therefrom. This cast is then placed in a further frame in which it is covered with a layer of a plastics and metal particle mixture in which is set a series of tubes, which in a subsequent step, is used for the circulation of a coolant. The matrix resulting from this last frame is then located in an injection moulding press for the reproduction step. This comprises placing a sheet of P.V.C. bearing a printed image of the original in the press such that in operation the P.V.C. is backed with further plastics and moulded to the relief of the matrix. In the press the picture on the P.V.C. is brought into accurate registration with the contours of the matrix and the hot thermoplastic fluid injected heats, presses and deforms the P.V.C. sheet so that it conforms to the matrix.
