1388278 Screw extruder evaporator MANOLENE MANUFACTURE NORMANDE DE POLYETHYLENS 30 March 1972 [31 March 1971 18 May 1971] 15111/72 Heading B1B [Also in Division C3] Apparatus for the removal of solvents from solutions containing less than 60 per cent of polyolefins comprises first 10 and second 23 extruders; means 21 connecting said extruders in series; each extruder including a barrel, at least one lateral degassing orifice 19 in the barrel of the first extruder, axially spaced degassing orifices 29-33 in the barrel of the second extruder, at least one self-cleaning screw, means 16, 28 for heating the barrels and means 31A-33A for applying different pressures to at least some of the orifices so arranged that the pressure at each successive lateral orifice of the second barrel is no greater than that of any orifice upstream thereof, whereby the pressure at the last degassing orifice is less than 100mm. Hg. Each screw extruder may have co-rotating interengaging multiple screws 11, 12, 24, 25, the downstream screw extruder preferably having a flight depth less than that of the upstream extruder.
