Abstract
1387902 Valves SOC ANON PRONAL 7 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 10516/72 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] A closing device. 12 for a pneumatic system comprises a bag or bladder defined by two deformable fluid tight sheets 13, 15 with a closing face co-operable with an annular seat 18 adjacent an aperture and an orifice in communication with the exterior medium or the pneumatic system so that pressure variations in the bag or bladder result in its expansion or contraction and the opening and closing of the aperture. The bag which is preferably circular and made of coated fabric, is provided with ribs for separating the two sheets in the region of the orifice. The two sheets are secured at their edges by a V-section member of rubberized fabric. In Fig. 1 the invention is incorporated in the inlet of a fan, as shown with the fan off and the aperture closed. Switching on of the fan causes a decrease in the pressure in the bag and hence the opening of the aperture. In Fig. 5 the device is adapted as a relief valve by incorporating a pilot valve 51 comprising a gravity controlled closure member 54 and a calibrated washer 58 in the pipe 45 to create a preferential flow path through the pipe 48. In the event of excess pressure in the pipe 47 opening the valve 51, air is preferentially exhausted from the bag and the force 15 moves away from seat 18 and the air is able to escape via orifices 61 in ring 11.
