1387649 Polyvinylorganosilane membranes RHONE-POULENC SA 6 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56381/72 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C3 and B1] A membrane is composed of a vinylorganosilane polymer composed of a plurality of units of formula which units need not be identical, in which each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , which may be identical or different represents a linear or branched alkyl radical containing up to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl radical with 5 or 6 ring carbon atoms, or a monovalent, monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic radical, the cycloalkyl and/or aryl radicals optionally being substituted by one or more alkyl radicals with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may represent a hydrogen atom. The membrane is between 50 and 500Á thick and possesses on both faces pores of diameter between 0À05 and 25Á; at least a part of these pores pass without discontinuity through the membrane The membrane is prepared from a solution of the polymer in a mixture of a solvent and a non- solvent for the polymer. This solution is cast on to a temporary support, which is a roller in the examples, and the polymer is then coagulated, by contact with a coagulating liquid, before either of the solvent or the non-solvent has started to evaporate. In the examples the polymer is polyvinyltrimethylsilane.
