Abstract

1387569 Detergents containing builders UNILEVER Ltd 10 March 1972 [25 March 1971] 7776/71 Heading C5D [Also in Division C3] A detergency builder which may be used in detergent formulations comprising sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate and alkaline silicate comprises a stabilized oxidized polysaccharide obtained by contacting an oxidized polysaccharide which contains at least 20% of dicarboxyl units (based on the original anhydroglucose units) and undesired aldehydic or ketonic carbonyl groups with a carbonyl reactive agent to give a treated dicarboxyl polysaccharide containing less of said carbonyl groups than the untreated material. Other builders such as sodium citrate, sodium oxydiacetate, sodium oxydisuccinate, sodium carboxymethyl oxysuccinate, sodium carbonate and polyelectrolyte builders may be present.
