1387465 Honing MASCHINENFABRIK GLUCKAUF GUNTHER KLERNER 14 July 1972 33056/72 Heading B3D A honing tool comprises peripherally-spaced longitudinally-extending honing slips or segments 2 adhesively bonded to the circumferential surface, or to shallow grooves therein, of two non-deformable holders 4 separated by the thrust elements 13, 14 of a mechanical or hydraulic mechanism for adjusting the radial expansion of the holders, and a transverse driving bar 23 engaging holes 29 in the holders and mounted in a mandrel 5 embraced by the holders. As described, five honing slips 2 are adhesively bonded to the circumferential surface or grooves therein of each of the holders which embrace the tubular mandrel 5 detachably fitted to the machine spindle 6, the mandrel and spindle having axial bores for a control rod 7 of the adjusting mechanism. The holders may have a peripheral length embracing 120 to 180 degrees. The adjusting mechanism is disposed in a bore 10 in the mandrel and consists of two units each having complementary semi-cylindrical members 13, 14 formed with inclined faces 15, 16. Each face abuts a respective thrust pin 17, 18 which is semicylindrical along a major part of its length, the flat faces 19, 20 of the pins being in sliding engagement. A central rod 25 and plate 28 interconnects the units so that they operate in unison upon movement of the control rod to expand the holders against the pressure of return springs 22 acting on the thrust pins and springs 12 acting on the holders. The central rod 25 passes through a bore 24 in the transverse driving bar 23 which is located in holes 29, 30 in the mandrel and holders. Positions (31, Fig. 3, not shown) of a measuring gauge may be disposed between adjacent edges of the holders.
