1387401 Assembling force fits ADBAR (PATENT CO) Ltd 2 March 1972 [14 Dec 1970] 59361/70 Heading B3U An insert installation tool 40 for axially moving a sleeve 2 relative to a tapered body 1 to lock the latter in a hole 3 comprises a pin 44 having a reduced end 47 and a tubular nose piece 43 thereabout carried for axial movement relative to one another by a holder 41. In operation the tool is moved axially to engage the pin end 47 within a bore of the body 1 and abut the pin shoulder 48 against the smaller end of the body 1. This movement pushes the body through the sleeve 2 into the hole 3 so that the sleeve remains outside the hole and about the leading part of the pin 44. On continued-axial movement of the tool, relative axial movement between the pin and nose piece take place so that the nose piece abuts the end of the sleeve 2 and drives it into the hole to lock the body within the hole. The end 47 of the pin may be split (Fig. 7, not shown) to frictionally engage the body. The nose piece may be held in place by a ring nut screwed about an externally threaded part of the holder, (Fig. 7) or may be held by a grub screw (Fig. 8, not shown). The tool may be used in a drill chuck, press, pneumatic head, hydraulic head or an electrically vibrating head.
