Abstract

1387381 Percussive tools GARDNERDENVER CO 15 Jan 1973 [11 July 1972] 1989/73 Heading B4C [Also in Division F1] In an hydraulic percussion apparatus a member 52 is struck by a portion 50 of a piston 44, which is propelled by a cam surface 104 on a rotary member 102 through a valve member 36, a piston 32, hydraulic fluid trapped in a bore 26, and a portion 58 of the piston 44. The member 102 is a part of a gerotor-type hydraulic motor 70 and is supported by end plates 108, 110 on roller bearings 118. Rotation of the member 102 is effected by a gear 92 revolving therein in a planetary manner relative to a fixed gear 84 when pressurized hydraulic fluid is supplied through a port 82 to chambers between the gears. The spent fluid is discharged through chambers 27, 15 and a port 138. The valve member 36 is biased towards the surface 104 by a spring 34 and has guides 42, which permit it to slide in the piston 32 and when it is raised with respect to said piston, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), allow fluid in the chamber 27 to enter the bore 26. To limit the downward stroke of the piston 44 passages 30 let fluid in the bore 26 escape when exposed by the portion 58. A one-way seal 62 ensures cushioning of the piston 44 by atmospheric air that enters the lower portion 47 of a chamber 46 through grooves 64 and maintains a negative pressure in the upper portion of said chamber so as to produce the return stroke of this piston.
