Abstract

1387230 Exhaust brakes SOC ANON DBA 24 Sept 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 44696/73 Heading FIB [Also in Division F2] An anti-skid braking system for a vehicle comprises fluid-pressure actuated brakes 14, 16, an electronic monitoring unit 22 responsive to input signals representative of the speed of at least one of the vehicle driving wheels and delivering signals to a modulating assembly which modulates the braking pressure and a speed reducing device in the form of an exhaust brake comprising a flap moved by a pneumatic jack controlled by a solenoid valve controlled in turn by a switch unit 36 which operates in response to the monitor unit output signals. The speed reducing device may be rendered wholly or partially inoperative by a cut-off signal generated by the monitoring unit and the system may include timing means capable of keeping the speed-reducing device inoperative for a predetermined period after the termination of the cut-off signal. As shown in Fig. 1, the speed reducing unit 28 is electrical but this is replaceable by an exhaust brake controlled by switch 36. (For Figure see next page)
