Abstract
1387058 Packaging flanged reels in boxes EASTMAN KODAK CO 10 March 1972 [10 March 1971] 11213/72 Heading B8C Apparatus for packaging flanged reels 8 of the kind having a hub 10 with an axial bore 12 and circular flanges 14 comprises a reel-supporting frame 22 which is hinged along one edge 20 to a table 16 and which is provided with a pair of rails 24, 24 which slidingly accommodate a plurality of bars 26 each having a plurality of openings 30 and associated stepped, flat, reel supporting-surfaces 28 to facilitate interleaving of the flanges of adjacent reels 8 stacked on rods 16 which are mounted in the openings 30. V- shaped grooves 34 leading into the openings 32 facilitate mounting of the rods 16. The stepped surfaces of the bars A, C, E, Fig. 2, are identical but the stepped surfaces of the bars B, O are displaced upwardly to facilitate interleaving of corresponding reels 8 on adjacent bars 26 when the latter are moved together. To provide a full load of reels the bar A is loaded with a stack of reels 8 and moved to one end of the frame 22, the remaining bars 26 being successively loaded and slid toward the preceding bar with the respective reel flanges in interleaved relation until the reel load is completed. To form a package an inverted plastics bag 48 and box 50 unit is placed over the load, Fig. 7, and a slide plate 46, Fig. 8, mounted in the table 16, is withdrawn so that the rods 32 fall by gravity into a receiving bin 52. The box 50 and frame 22 are then pivoted as a unit, through an angle of 180 degrees, about the hinge 20 so that the box 50 rests, in an upright position, on a table 54 ready for closing and sealing. The slide 46 and frame 22 are then returned to their respective normal operative positions for a subsequent loading operation. In a modification, Figs. 4-6, not shown, the reel supporting fixture (18<SP>1</SP>) has a plurality openings 42 which are associated with corresponding circular and partiallycircular recesses 38 and raised portions 40 therebetween.
