Description

, March 29, 192?.
C. C. CRAIG EGG DUMPING BOARD Filed Dec. 2, 1925 lNVEN TOR Patented Mar. 29, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Eee-nmvrrmo BOARD.
Application filed December 2. 1925. Serial No. 72,826.
My invention relates to improvements in machinery for handling eggs and the object-i5 of my in'iprovement are, first, to provide a hinged board for receivii'ig'a tray of eggs; second, to provide compartments in said tray; and third. to provide a hinged pad first to swing on top of the eggs in the tray. and then to receive the eggs without breakage as tray, pasteboard receptacle, and pad are all inverted together.
I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which Figure I is a side elevation of the dumping board machine showing the hinged dumping board on one side and the'nadded receiver on the other, with all the loose parts removed.
Fig. 11 is a perspective view with tray and pasteboard receptacle in place, and the pad swung over on top of all.
Fig. 111 is a side elevation showing the inverted position just after the eggs have been dumped into the cardboard receptacle.
Fig. IV is a View of the padded receiver in perspective.
Fig. V is a plan view of the egg tray, showing compartments.
Nailed to the sides of the baseboard 1 are two uprights 2. These uprights support a bar 3 upon which are hinged a dumping board 4 and a padded receiver 5. The dumping board t and the pad 5, although both hinged to the bar 3, do not fit closely together when swung into parallel relation, but are spaced so that the egg tray 6 and the pasteboard receptacle 7 may be placed between them. The right angularly bent hinge; 8 provide for this spacing. The asteboard rece )tacle 7 is divided into man P compartments by crossed strips of pasteboard so that each compartment registers with a compartment 9 of the egg tray 6, when the receptacle is superimposed upon the tray. i
The receiver 5 is a shallow tray containing a layer of excelsior or other padding material covered with an oil cloth or the like. The eggs are received from the processing machine in the tray 6 and in this tray are placed upon the dumping board 4. A. pasteboard receptacle 7 is then placed on top of the tray, and on top of the receptacle a big square piece of cardboard 10. The padded receiver 5 is then swung into posi- 5 tion on top of the cardboard, and then the whole movable part of the apparatus is swung over from the position shown in Figure II to that shown in Figure III. The eggs then fall into the pasteboard receptacle bottomed by the cardboard square 10, and are ready for transfer into the egg cases.
I claim:
A device for handling eggs having in combination a base, uprights attached thereto, a bar held by said uprights. a board hinged to said bar by right angularly bent hinges and adapted to receive an egg tray, a tray also hinged to said bar by right angularly bent hinges and adapted to receive an egg 7 separating member, a pad in said tray, the whole arrangement being such that the hinged portion with its contents may be inverted and the eggs thereby transferred from said egg tray into said egg separating member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES C. CRAIG.
