Abstract

1386652 Fluid-pressure servo-control MESSERSCHMITT BOLKOW BLOHM GmbH 16 Feb 1972 [23 Feb 1971] 7192/72 Heading G3P An aircraft elevator 1 is positioned by servomotors 2, 3 controlled by valves 10, 11 connected to respective fluid sources 8, 9 by valves 35, 31 connected to a differential piston 37 responsive via 51, 52 to the source pressures so as normally to adopt the position shown in which valve 31 is closed and valve 35 is open, resulting in control by servomotor 2 with servomotor 3 acting as a standby. The valves 10, 11 are each connected to a floating lever 12 or 13 by a pin 22 Fig. 2, extending from the valve rod into sliders 24 carried by arms 20 pivoted to the floating lever at 15. If valve 10 should seize, springs 23 allow continued relative movement of lever 12 and solenoid valve 32 is automatically closed via 33 causing piston 37 to shift rightwards to open valve 31 and close valve 35, thereby engaging servomotor 3. This changeover also occurs if source 8 fails. The system might alternatively include three channels, e.g. when used for controlling helicopter rotor blades. Each valve 10, 11 may act to interconnect both sides of its respective servomotor upon failure of supply pressure.
