Abstract
1386630 Sulphur-containing amino acids ILFORD Ltd 12 July 1973 [12 July 1972] 32485/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] New compounds, which reduce the tendency of silver halide emulsions to exhibit latent image regression have the formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom, or a lower alkyl group, an acyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aralkoxycarbonyl group, an acyloxycarbonyl group or an aryloxycarbonyl group, R 2 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R 3 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R 4 is a lower alkyl group, R 5 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, Y is a straight or branched alkylene chain having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, X is an anion and n is 0 or 1, R 6 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an alkali metal cation but when n is 1, R 6 may not be an alkali metal cation. Those compounds which are salts are made by reacting an amine salt of formula with a compound of formula The basic salt or free base may be prepared from the above product in the usual way. The Specification also describes the preparation of the following intermediates (1) 2-phenyl-4-npropylidene-5-oxazolone, (2) α-benzoylamino- #-benzylmercapto-n-valeric acid and (3) α- amino-#-benzylmercapto-n-valeric acid and its hydrochloride.
