Abstract

1386313 Forming positive images by photodevelopment FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 8 Nov 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51619/72 Heading G2C A positive image is formed by imagewise exposing to an intensity of greater than 15,000 Lux for less than 10<SP>-2</SP> second to form a latent image, a light-developable silver halide lightsensitive material having a layer of a binder in which are disposed silver halide grains having occluded therein at least one bismuth compound which supplies bismuth ions and which layer also contains at least one compound of the formula:- wherein X is O, S, Se, NH or NR where R is optionally substituted 1-12C alkyl or optionally substituted aryl; and D is optionally substituted #-phenylene, optionally substituted 1, 2- naphthylene or optionally substituted 2, 3- naphthylene and overall exposing the material to form a visible image. The bismuth compound may be bismuth nitrate, sulphate, oxide, chloride, bromide, iodide, lactate, oleate, oxalate or sodium triglycollamate (nitrilotrieacetate). The compound may be 2-mercapto-benzothiazole, benzimidazole, benzoxazole or benzoselenazole, 2-mercapto-4- methylbenzimidazole, 2-mercapto-1', 2 -naphthoimidazole, 2-mercapto-5-methylbenzimidazole, 2-mercapto-1-methylbenzimidazole, 5-chloro-2- mercaptobenzimidazole, 5-carboxy-2-mercaptobenzimidazole, 2-mercapto-5-nitrobenzimidazole, 6-(fluoro or iodo)-2-mercaptobenzothiazole, 6- ethoxy-2-mercaptobenzothiazole, 2-mercapto-4, 6-dimethyl-benzoxazole or 2-mercapto-5-sulphobenzimidazole. Overall exposure may be effected using daylight, tungsten, fluorescent, mercury arc or xenon lamp illumination. After imagewise exposure and before overall exposure the material may be heated at at least 70‹C for at least 1 second (see Ex 6). The image produced in Ex 1 is a positive blue image.
