Abstract
1386179 Induction heating PARK-OHIO INDUSTRIES Inc 12 Sept 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 42228/72 Heading H5H An induction heating device for heating closely spaced work-surfaces 4, 16 (e.g. the conical valve seats of an engine block B) comprises a multiturn primary transformer winding 70 surrounding both the secondary windings 60 of a pair of inductor units C, D, for heating the respective surfaces 14, 16, each unit comprising a support 30 carrying an inductor 50 of a shape matching the surface to be heated and a transformer secondary 60, and means, e.g. hydraulic cylinder 42, for moving the unit towards and away from the work surface. Each secondary winding 60 is a single turn hollow winding connected by hollow conductors, e.g. 54 to hollow inductor 50, so that coolant may be supplied to the winding and inductor. The provision of two secondaries within a single primary enables adjacent inductors 50 to be more closely spaced than the conventional arrangement in which each secondary is surrounded by a separate primary.
