Abstract
1385382 Electro-medical apparatus E JAEGER 30 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 15107/72 Heading G1N The physical stress imposed on a person using an ergometer is controlled so as to maintain a physiological parameter at a pre-set, safe level. As shown, the ergometer consists of a moving belt 10 driven by a motor 18 which is regulated in dependence upon an actual motor speed signal U 1 and a desired motor speed signal Us, the desired signal being controlled by the value of a detected physiological parameter, e.g. pulse rate, blood pressure, pulse wave transit time. The physiological parameter is detected at 38, e.g. a microphone or electrodes, and converted to a voltage U P which is applied to a meter 40 and/or a recorder, and also to a variable attenuator 46. The desired parameter value is set on attenuator 46, which is in series with a lamp 48. The flux emitted by the lamp is dependent on the parameter value and impinges on a photo-sensitive resistor 50 connected in series with a resistor 52. The desired signal Us is derived from the junction of resistors 50, 52. A switch 54 is provided to enable manual setting of the signal U S . The control may be applied to other ergometers.
