Abstract
1385366 Annular heat exchangers PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 26 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 19357/72 Heading F4S Conical inner and outer wall surfaces 1, 2 form therebetween an annular space in which is disposed a strip of sheet material corrugated to form radially extending partitions 4 joined by intermediate strip portions 5, 6, the partitions 4 defining passages in said annular space through alternate ones of which flows a fluid to be heated whilst a heating fluid flows in the intermediate passages, all the strip portions 4, 5 and 6 having the shape of an isosceles trapezium. In use, the passages formed by the partitions 4 are closed at their ends, e.g. by plates (26, 33, Fig. 3), and the strip extends axially beyond the ends of the confining walls 1, 2 so that the heat exchanging fluids may enter and leave their respective passages radially at these axial extensions of the strip. As described (Fig. 3), the heat exchanger is incorporated in a thermodynamic machine in which gases from a burner (20, 21) heat combustion air in the heat exchanger (22) of the invention, and also provide heat for the regenerator (15) of the thermodynamic machine.
