Abstract
1385348 Conjugated dienes ERDOLCHEMIE GmbH 20 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 58684/72 Heading C5E Conjugated dienes are produced by dehydrating an aldehyde having the same number of carbon atoms with an acidic catalyst. The aldehyde has the general Formula (I) in which the radicals R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each H, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals. The reaction may be carried out at 250-500‹ C. optionally in the presence of a carrier gas. The catalyst may be an inorganic acid or an acid salt or anhydride thereof or a mixed anhydride. Suitable catalysts are phosphoric, boric, silicic, and titanic acids, the anhydrides thereof or boron phosphate, a silicoborate or silicotitanate. Examples describe the preparation of isoprene from 2-methyl-butyraldehyde, 1,3-butadiene from n-butyraldehyde and 2-methyl-1,3-pentadiene from 2-methylvaleraldehyde.
