Abstract
1385277 Seismic charges IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Oct 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 53500/72 Heading F3A [Also in Division H4] An explosive charge 19 primed with a delay electric detonator is projected to its required explosion depth for marine seismic prospecting by establishing a downward water stream through conduit 10 (Fig. 1) and along a path 35 extending from the submerged conduit end through the marine water mass, and inserting the charge into the water stream. As shown in Fig. 3 the charge comprises TNT/ammonium nitrate powder in a sealed container 23 with a plastic nose cone 26 and a pocket 28 accommodating the detonator. The detonator wires are connected to brush contacts 33 which engage electrodes 21, 22 (Fig. 2) in the conduit for initiating the charge. A rotary turret 17 (Fig. 1) is used for loading charges in succession into conduit 10. A foil 34 shorts the contacts 33 before loading.
