Abstract

1385078 Photographic processing apparatus E F HARACZ 21 Nov 1972 [18 Feb 1972] 53775/72 Heading G2X A photo-lithographic plate processing apparatus comprises a base 12 on which is mounted a plate member 18, means (e.g. a vacuum chamber 22) for temporarily holding a plate to be processed on plate member 18, processing means which are spaced from and extend transversely across the plate member, are adapted for longitudinal reciprocating movement over the plate in a plane parallel thereto and include (i) a plurality of applicators for sequentially applying to the plate a plurality of processing liquids during sequential movements of the processing means and (ii) a plurality of contact means for evenly spreading the liquids over the surface of the plate, the contact means being selectively indexable so as to provide predetermined contact with the plate by only one of the contact means during any given movement of the developing means, drive means for effecting the processing means movement, and oscillating means for imparting transverse back and forth motion to the contact means. As shown Fig. 2, the developer means comprises spray pipes (24) and a contact assembly 26 movable up and down on a screw 28 or 30, the amount of travel being pre-selected by limit switches. The contact assembly 26 comprises four segments (36) radially spaced on a shaft (40) and having soft surfaces (43); shaft (40) is rotated by a motor-driven sprocket (44) and is reciprocated by a motor-driven wheel (50). Processing liquids (e.g. developer and gum) are supplied to spray pipes (24) from containers (56), 58 via valves (68), (70); wash water is supplied via a valve (76). The operation of these, a pump 82 for vacuum chamber 22 and a drier fan (84) movable over the plate is controlled by a timer (80). As shown in Fig. 2 the apparatus may contain two sets of everything so that two plates may be processed simultaneously. In another embodiment Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) the apparatus has a horizontal plate member 118 and processes only one plate at a time.
