Abstract

1385076 Workpiece transferring; work turrets A MONFORTS 6 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 51010/72 Headings B3B and B3T An apparatus for loading and unloading an automatic machine tool comprises a store 21 containing workpieces 23 and chucks, and a delivery device 11 having an arm 12 movable between a first position C in the store 21 and a second position A in the machine tool 1 to transfer chucks from the store to a mounting position in the machine tool, and workpieces 23 from the store to chucks in the said mounting position. In machining a batch of workpieces, the workpieces 23 are put into a chain conveyer of the store 21 and the required chucks are put into the same store but on a reverse side to the workpieces. A second delivery device (16) (Fig. 2, not shown) may be provided to transfer the chucks. The machine tool 1 includes a rotatable disc 7 having two chucking positions, one position A to receive a chuck and a workpiece, and position B opposite a tool turret 5. The stores may be mobile and the delivery devices may be movable on rails 18. Each workpiece, chuck and/ or station in the store may be code marked with information regarding the required machining operations.
