Abstract

1384759 Tensile testing machine A W SLEESWIJK 10 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 37411/72 Heading G15 A tensile testing machine includes a testing unit mounted on a frame 14, the testing unit including a housing 10 containing a tensioning device, a load cell 6, gripping jaws 3, 4 and a frame 7, 8, and the arrangement being such that test piece 5 may be arranged optionally vertically above or below the housing 10, whereby a liquid thermostat bath may be readily placed around the test piece 5 when it is arranged below the housing 10 Figs.3, 6 and 9 (not shown). In Fig.2 housing 10 is rotatably mounted on supports 13 which are movable along guides 14, and test piece 5 may be arranged below housing 10 by raising supports 13 and rotating housing 10 through 180 degrees. In Fig.8, housing 10 is mounted on a pivoted arm 18, and the test piece 5 may be arranged below housing 10 by rotating arm 18 and housing 10 through 180 degrees. In Fig.4, frame 7, 8, jaws 3, 4, load cell and test piece 5 may be detached from the top of the housing and attached to the bottom of the housing after the housing has been raised along frame 14.
