Abstract
1384468 Embedding stators in plastics material POLYMOTOR ITALIANA SpA and GAMBA & FIORITO COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE DI PRECISIONE SpA 17 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 17728/72 Heading B5A A stator 20 of an electrical machine is embedded in a curable plastics material by placing it in a centrifugal mould 7, 8, rotating the mould about the longitudinal axis of the stator, feeding liquid plastics material from a reservoir 13 into the mould via a valve 15 until the desired embedding level is reached and continuing mould rotation until the material is substantially cured. The two parts of the mould are joined by bolts 9 and attached by bolts 6 to the head 5 of a rotary shaft 3. The diameter of a port 208 in the mould part 8 determines the material level in the mould, and the surplus material flows into a pan 12 from a spout 11 in a splash guard 10. An electrical lead 120 from the stator windings is received in an axial bore in the shaft. In one embodiment, the tops of the stator slots are not filled with plastics in a first stage by using a mould half 8 with a port 208 of appropriate diameter; in a second stage, the said mould half is replaced by one having- a port of smaller diameter and using a plastics material charged with a magnetic substance, to thereby provide magnetic strips in the tops of the slots. In a further step an inner corrosion resistant liner is provided in the stator. By a suitable shaping of the mould a flange may be formed integrally with the stator.
