Abstract

1383976 Aerials LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS GmbH 9 Oct 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 46525/72 Heading H4A Linear arrays of aerial elements are arranged about a common centre so that at least one crossed Adcock DF aerial system is provided, utilizing some of the elements. The arrays are also used for DF purposes, by measuring the phase differences between the received voltages of their elements. As shown in Fig. 2, two sets of two parallel six-element arrays intersect at right-angles, the two centre elements of each array being shared with the arrays which it intersects. The said shared elements are utilized for a four-element Adcock aerial system. In a second embodiment, three sets of two parallel six element arrays intersect at angles of 60 degrees, and a six-element Adcock aerial system is provided from central shared elements (Fig. 3, not shown). In third and fourth embodiments, three sets of two parallel four-element arrays intersect at angles of 60 degrees, and respective totals of 18 and 12 elements are used (Figs. 5a, 5b, not shown). The lements around the outer peripheries of these arrangements provide Adcock aerial systems which are additional to those provided by the central elements. In a fifth embodiment three four-element arrays intersect at a common centre and are at 60 degrees to each other, as shown in Fig. 4b. In a sixth embodiment two four-element arrays intersect at a common centre and are at right angles to each other (Fig. 4a, not shown).
