Abstract

1383655 Sodium perborate PECHINEY UGINE KUHLMANN 13 Jan 1972 [13 Jan 1971] 1695/72 Heading C1A The invention comprises spherical particles of sodium perborate of formula having an apparent density of 700 to 850 g./litre and a particle size of 350 to 450 Á. They may be prepared by crystallization from a supersaturated solution of sodium perborate containing a compound having at least one sulphate and/or sulphonate function attached to at least one aryl group and/or alkyl hydrocarbon chain containing 8-22 carbon atoms and optionally at least one unsaturated bond. The solution may also contain a C 2 -C 4 alcohol and/or an unsulphated ester formed by esterifying an acid having 8-22 carbon atoms with an alcohol having 2-4 carbon atoms, e.g. ethyl ester of stearic acid. The mother liquor resulting from the crystallization may be treated with an absorbent polystyrene resin to remove hydrolysis or degradation products of the additives. The liquor may also be contacted with active carbon, before or after treatment with the resin to remove any alcohols.
