1383484 Dispensing fuel TOKICO Ltd 21 March 1973 [21 March 1972(2) 5 Aug 1972] 13652/73 Heading A4T [Also in Division G4] A fuel supplying apparatus comprises a stand post outer shell having a delivery hose 16 for delivery fuel supplied by a pump 12 from a reservoir 14, a flowmeter 13 for measuring the flow supplied and for producing a rotary output and a reversible plate-type indicator 19 having a mechanical transmission for transmitting the rotary output to one of the rotary indicating elements of the indicator, means being provided for resetting the indicating elements to zero. The pump 12 is belt-driven from a motor 11 and supplies fuel from the reservoir 14 through a pipe 15a and the flowmeter 13 to a fixed pipe 15b connected to a hose having a nozzle 17. The flowmeter has a rotary output 18 connected to the reversible plate-type indicating element 19 having a shaft 21, Fig. 2, which is driven by the output 18 and which together with a shaft 22 is rotatable mounted between plates 20a, 20b. The shaft 21 carries a gear 24 having two teeth Fig. 3 (not shown) engaging a gear 48 of a rotary element 25 which is one of a number of elements 25, 26, 27 having reversible plates for indicating the quantity of fuel dispensed. Element 25 consists of plates 31, 32 spaced apart by rods 35a-35d and mounted on a bush 30 rotatably mounted on shaft 22. Each plate 31, 32 has a row of ten peripheral holes 36a -- 36j and 37a, - 37j, aligned holes receiving projections 40a, -- 40j and 41a, - 41j on plates 39a, - 39j which are spring urged in an anticlockwise direction as viewed in Fig. 5 so that at an aperture in the stand post an upper plate 39a bears against a stop 43 and a lower plate 39b bears against a stop 44, plate 39a showing the upper half of a digit and plate 39b the lower half of the digit. As the gear 48 is intermittently rotated by the two toothed gear 24, the plates 39 are successively presented to the aperture to display the digits 0 to 9 of a lower order. When digit 9 of element 25 is reached, a gear 53 having two teeth engages an idler gear 54 rotatable on a shaft 23 to effect an increment of rotation to the element 26 which displays digits of the next order, a similar drive inter-connecting elements 26 and 27. The shaft 22 rotatably supporting the bushes 30 of the elements is formed with a V-groove 28 which is engageable by pawls 45 of the elements 25, 26, 27 upon rotation of the shaft 22 in one direction by a handle 29 or motor, which may be actuated up-on hanging of the nozzle or when the nozzle 17 is lifted from its hanger on the stand post, to effect zeroing of the indicating elements 25, 26, 27, the pawl being mounted on rods 35a of the elements and urged by springs 46 through apertures 47 in the bushes 30. The disc 32 of the element 25 is connected by pawls 51a, 51b to a ratchet wheel 49 integral with the gear-wheel 48 whereby the element is rotatable independently of the gear during zeroing. Similar connections exist between each pair of adjacent elements 25, 26, 27. In another embodiment, the first digit of the indicator comprises an index ring counter. In a further embodiment, the indicator displays the quantity of fuel passing through a flowmeter to a hose on a stand post and a hose carried by a reel from a ceiling, rotation of the reel actuating a microswitch controlling the motor driving the pump.
