Abstract

1383100 Polymerizing vinyl chloride SHINETSU CHEMICAL CO 11 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 57043/72 Heading C3P Vinyl chloride is polymerized in an aqueous medium in the presence of an oil-soluble initiator and a water-soluble redox reducing agent in an amount of 0À05-10 mols. per mol. of oilsoluble initiator, 0À5-4% by wt. of monomer of an alkali metal salt of a C 8 -C 18 saturated fatty acid and 0À05-3% by wt. of monomer and equivalent to 10-75% of the alkali metal salt of a C 8 -C 18 saturated alcohol or fatty acid; optionally an alkali metal oxide or hydroxide may also be added. In one example vinyl acetate is present as comonomer. The products have particle sizes of 0À1-2 microns.
