Abstract
1365590 Suspension polymerisation SHINETSU CHEMICAL CO 9 March 1972 11123/72 Heading C3P In the suspension polymerization or copolymerization of vinyl chloride the pH is increased to at least 8 before 30% conversion, but after stabilized suspended oil drops have formed or a film of polymer has formed over the drops, e.g. after 3% conversion. The basic materials added are alkali metal oxides, hydroxides, peroxides or salts of weak acids, oxides or hydroxides of alkaline earth metal or hydroxides of other polyvalent metals. Dispersing assistants may be added, e.g. non-ionic or anionic emulsifiers or higher alcohols or acids. Exemplified comonomers are vinyl acetate or stearate and cetyl or stearyl vinyl ether.
