Abstract

1382478 Lip type seals CHARLES WESTON & CO Ltd 31 May 1973 [9 June 1972] 26937/72 Heading F2B A lip type seal has on its low pressure side a secondary sealing means 23 adjacent the lip 23b comprising arcuate elements 23a in end-to-end disposition, the elements being convex towards the lip and of decreasing wall height towards the lip. The height of each element increases from approximately zero at its middle 23d to ten thousandths of an inch at each end 23c. The radially inwardly directed faces 23e of the elements lie on a conical surface coaxial with the seal axis, the angle between the generatrix and the notional cone is approximately 4 degrees and the convex wall 23f is at an angle of approximately 89 degrees to the face 23e. In addition to the elements 23, oppositely directed elements may be provided to form a closed loop pattern as disclosed in Specification 6392/72.
