Abstract

1382389 Invalid lifting devices GEURTSEN BV 6 Aug 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 37261/73 Heading B8H An invalid transporting and lifting apparatus for moving patients between a bed and a bath or shower closet comprises a wheeled carriage 4 with a pair of vertical, telescopic, guide pillars 6, 7 interconnected at their upper ends by a beam 8. An hydraulic jack 9 extends between the carriage 4 and the beam 8 to raise and lower said beam. Also connected to the upper ends of the pillars are the telescopic limbs 12b of U-shaped frames 12. The limbs are pivoted to respective pillars and each have an obtuse angled arm 13 interconnected by a linkage 14 whereby movement of a lever 15 connected to one of the arms 13 moves the frames between a vertical position and a horizontal position. The height of the frames 12 are adapted to engage the top edge of a bath or shower closet and the other limbs support horizontal bars 18 which extend parallel to the pivot axis of the frames with the pillars and support a patient supporting litter 5. The litter has a hinged head portion 5a whereby when the litter is lowered into a bath the head portion engages the head of the bath and tilts a patient from a prone position to a semi-seating position. A spring 23 may be connected to the arm 13 to bias the frames towards a horizontal position.
