Abstract
1382226 Measuring electric fields RION CO Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [1 March 1972 16 March 1972] 8269/73 Heading G1U Electrostatic lines of force A impinging on a detection electrode 13 are periodically interrupted by a shield 12 and the resulting signal amplified by means 17 including in its feedback an intermediate electrode 16 on the insulating support 15. All the leakage current from the detection electrode 13 to earth 14 passes through the electrode 16 thus affecting the amplifier 8 feedback. The result is to effectively multiply the detector leakage resistance by the amplifier gain. In the actual embodiment Fig.3 (not shown), the electrode 13 comprises four quadrants (21), separated by the spokes (23) of the electrode 16 which comprises inner and outer annular portions joined by the spokes. The electrode 16 is supported on insulating pillars (24) mounted on the ground plane (25). Figs.4-10 (not shown), illustrate the asymmetric placing of two detectors on the surface of an aircraft body so that electrostatic fields indicating thunder-storms may be detected in any flight attitude.
