Abstract
1382153 Casting molten glass VETRERIA DI VERNANTE SpA 10 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 21761/72 Heading C1M A composite shutter for controlling the flow of a stream of molten glass through a casting channel 30 in the production of flat glass by the float process, comprises a main portion 10 and at least one associated wall portion 40, mounted on the upstream side of the main portion 10 for movement relative and in a plane parallel thereto, and co-operating with the main portion to define the profile of the passage through which the molten glass flows, the profile being variable on relative movement of the wall portion or portions. As shown, the main portion 10 is provided with rear guiding ribs 50 and two trapezoidal wall portions 40 are used. The main portion 10 has a straight lower profile and is supported by threaded rods 20 for adjustment in the channel 30. Each wall portion 40 has a top member 40 of refractory steel having two apertures 43 lying over recesses 42 and two supporting rods 60 are held in the recesses 42 by pivot pins 61, one of which lies in elongated slots 62 in the member 41 to allow some relative movement. Each rod 60 is separately movable and has a threaded portion received in a threaded sleeve 63 rotatably mounted on a crosspiece 65 and having external teeth engaging a worm 64 for rotation by a suitable drive. Tilting sideways of the wall portions 40 is therefore possible as in Fig. 6, for example. When more than two wall portions are provided, they need not be of the same configurations.
